HIGHLIGHTS

My dad forced my freshman self who hated running to do Cross Country. I HATED it. I specifically remember coach saying on one of my first days of practice "I don't care if you don't become the fastest, I just want you to love running. If you don't love this sport by the time you're done, I haven't done my job." I totally laughed at him, but look where I am now.. it became my life more or less.

Freshman year started out strong with a solid 30 ish minute 5k time at the old Sugar House Invite. It was fetching hot and I puked like 800 m from the finish. Definitely still hated running. As the season went on I LOVED my teammates and LOVED the sport.. looking back I was definitely one of those JV kids who talks too much about XC with nothing to show for it. Hahaha. I think I cut my time down to around a 23 ish by region. Which was also fetching hot.

Track came around and I was on the legendary all freshman SV 3200 varsity 2k12!!!! Jk. Us four freshmen were the only 32 runners on our team, pretty much. I could do a sold 13ish minutes by the end of the season ( I think.) I also ran the mile a bit but wasn't on varsity.

Sophomore Year is when I really started to love all this madness. I had a goal to make it onto Varsity, and I did it!! Not with a little motivation from the 7th varisty girl who told me she was never gonna get bumped off. Lol really? Srry. I ran on the state team, too! It was awesome. I loved all my senior guy friends that year. They were the best. By the end of the season I was running around 21 minutes ish. (too lazy to look up the actual times ahaha)

Track I still ran the 3200 but also the mile a lot more... I can't really think of anything all that exciting for that year of track. Except for this time in my life was around the time I actually started to associate with boys lol. The distance boys hated us bc we were in love with Conner. And not the others.

Junior year: MY BEST XC SEASON EVER! Over the summer my dad wrote in my mirror a "plan" for me to become #1 varsity.

***gonna finish typing this later lol***

Short-Term Running Goals:

  •  Keep running!! Even though I'm done running for a team I don't want to get out of the habit.
  • Run a half marathon this summer

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running for my whole life- Me & the other Senior girls just formed a pact that no matter where life takes us we will ALWAYS be in shape to run 5 miles under a 10 min/mile pace. Even if we're pregnant!!! The one excuse will be my mission. I have come to love running so so much. It's a part of who I am and I never want to not be a runner.

Personal:

I run for Sky View & love my team more than life. Class of 2015!

I've been to a dance with THEE Conner Mantz. nbd.

Known for puking during workouts and not proud of it (why did I just tpye that..) Also "the look". Thanks Coach Storrs.

10 with Rylee- we started at my house and ran to Green Canyon and continued up the canyon a few miles and then back the same way. It was one of those really fun relaxing runs that are really slow and include lots of talking and slipping in snow. It was super fun and the canyon was gorgeous!

Another attemted tempo... didn't suck as much as Friday but still really sucked. I've discovered that as long as I take shallower breaths I don't start gagging... but then it's harder to actually run fast cause you kind of need to, you know, breathe... Rylee thinks I should take a break and I think if this lasts much longer I might.

Reeaally easy day with Claire, Rylee, Audrey, and Darcy. It was super fun but almost too easy.. it was nice to have an easy day but I really want to start training harder. I just haven't had a ton of motivation since I know I'll end up suffocating on mucus every day. And we have a hard time pushing ourselves on hard days. It's been an off couple of weeks :/

Another 3 miles tempo- kind of. My goal for today was basically to stay with the others even if it meant like, dying haha. So we decided that since it was snowing and the wind was in our faces and the roads were snowy that we were just going to try and go sub-7's. Well that didn't really work out.. out times weren't very good but I did stay with them (Claire & Amber) so that was good. It hurt really bad at some parts but others felt like I was flying. Kind of an off day but still good.

Today we (mostly I) didn't have much time at all so we did some 800's, we did a warmup that was probably 3/4 of a mile or so and started, we didn't really know how far an 8 was, (we were on the road) so we just did a 3 minute sprint. we had a short break, did the same thing again (but this one was downhill so it wasn't as hard & we covered a lot more ground) had a short break, and then we were probably about 200m from her house so we sprinted to her house & were done. Short, but fairly hard. I felt way good today and was able to do the workout without coughing up a lung so I was excited about that. My cold is definitely abating (halelujah!)

So this was a super super frustrating day.. It was still snowing really hard so we decided to run indoors. Well we go to the weight room (the one that's supposed to be open after school for the students to use, you know) and the room with all the treadmills is locked! But, there's another room off to the side with like 2 treadmills, and that was unlocked, so we went in there and we thought half of us would do the workout while the other half did core, and then we'd switch. So we go to do that, and the treadmills won't even turn on! (they were plugged in, we checked (: ) So we ended up having to run around the 13-lap-per-mile track above the basketball court. The workout we did was 4x400's and 2x200's. We just went as fast as we could because none of us have watches. I felt waaay good and it felt good to do some sprints. The annoying part of that track is that the corners are super frequent and tight and it's hard to keep your speed up while going around them. But it was ok. Then we did some core. ( which kinda sucked but it was good.) I wanted to run more when I got home because my mileage this week has been SUPER pathetic but it didn't happen :P

Started indoor (the treadmills were usable today) and did a little warmup and then a mile above tempo which felt pretty good. We jogged for a bit after that to even it out to 2 mi. When we were done I realized it would still be awhile before my brother was back from his run so Rylee & I decided to just go run outside. It was SO NICE out there! The sun was shining and everything was melting and my cold has been abating. I love running on days like these, where you can totally forget about the mile high stacks of homework you have to do, even if it's for a few minutes. We just went past Mack Park and up the hill we call beauty and down the other side (called beast) and back to good old SV. Just a good day that was kind of hard but also relaxing.

Ran with Rylee to Audrey's house, (about 1.5 mi) and Audrey and Tess joined us and we did 10-20-30-40-50's x2 It was pretty hard but my cold hardly bugged me & I am just so happy about that! It felt good to get in a good, hard, workout outdoors, too. It was awesome weather again, too! We finished at SV and it ended up being about the same mileage as yesterday's run.

So the 1600 wasn't until like 9 pm but we went to the meet way earlier than that because we wanted to watch Conner race and then Claire was racing at like 6. After we got checked in and figured out Claire's heat we went on a warm up jog outside. I sat around for a long time watching Conner, Kyler, Claire, Ethan, and Stockton race. They all did great! It was a reaaaally long wait though and a lot of them left and I was bored out of my mind. Rylee & Amber showed up around 8 and soon after we began warming up and checking in. I was feeling pretty good during the warm up besides a weird feeling in my inside left shin. It hurt when I'd run and stuff and I got kind of worried.

Rylee & I were in heat 7 and Amber in heat 8. I was glad I ended up in the same heat as one of them. My goal for this was to get in the 5:40's. I was positioned as the very outside person on the start line. I was kinda worried about that but it turned out well. When the race started it made it easier to cut in as I went around the curve (I don't really know how to explain it) I felt like my start was kinda fast but it's only a mile so I think I just gotta get used to it. I have a problem with slowing down on the middle laps, and I really need to fix it because it's definitely my weakest point of my race. There was a small pack a little in front of me and Rylee was with them and I simply told myself to catch them and I did. It was the weirdest thing! I felt really mentally strong during this race. And my shin never hurt. I just kept slowly moving up and with like 200 to go I started my kick (I should've started at the 400, it just feels weird having 2 laps left even though it's equivalent to 1) and it was me and this other girl battling it out for the last 100 or so. I think she barely beat me :P I felt pretty good about my race, although I was a little dissapointed with my race. It was a PR, but only by 1 second and I didn't make my goal. I'm satisfied with it.

We were all feeling pretty worn out from the race so we decided to go long & easy. Me, Rylee, and Amber ran to Makayla's house (Amber turned around though cause she's had a cold) and then Makayla ran with us. we went around Hyde Park for 3 or so Miles and then Makayla went home and we started back to SV. It was a really fun, easy day.

Today we (Claire, Amber and I) decided to go check if the track was clear (beacause everything's been melting) and it was! We were really happy. We did 3 warm up laps and then an 800 with a 1:30 minutes recovery, 2x400s with 1 minute recoveries, and 4x200s with a 200 jog recovery. It was hard but not killer. I think we hit pretty much all our times. It mostly just felt nice to run on an outdoor track on a sunny day! Afterwards we did Mack & back for our cool down which is about a mile. Track tryouts are next week & I'm way excited!

Today we did sunnyside, which is a 5 mile run. We ran for 1 mi, then did tempo for what we estimated was 2 mi. but really it was only 1. We could tell it was short so after running 2 more easy miles we did 1 more tempo back to the school. None of us have a watch but I think we were probably pretty close to our times. I felt ok during it but I was having a hard time like getting into my rhythm, like I had to concentrate really hard on my breathing if that makes sense. It was good though.

I think it might've been a little shorter than 5 but it was around there. Today it was just Rylee & I and we decided to go easier because the last few days have been kinda hard. We just did a run we call golf course extended. It was super muddy at some parts but really fun. It was just a pretty easy pace but it felt nice to just run.

Took it easier again with Rylee, we've been going a little easier because tryouts are next week and we just want to feel fresh & ready for the season. We ran from her house and up dry canyon in smithfield. I just mapped it out on the computer and I'm pretty suprised it was only  4, we thought it was longer than that cause neither of us have watches. But that's ok. It was a really fun run. Before we turned around we climbed up this hill just for the heck of it and the view of the valley was amazing! We saw a herd of deer, too. (:

Went up Green Canyon with my Dad & brother. It was pretty fun! My feet kinda hurt though because I was wearing these things hooked to my shoes that are for running in snow/ice. They helped a TON, I would've been slipping all over without them, but they were really tight and kind of uncomfortable. The run was really easy & fun. The sun was starting to set a little bit at the end and it was super pretty. Can't wait for tryouts next week! (Ok tryouts acutally suck but I can't wait for it to be track season:) )

Track tryouts today.. We went around to different stations and they weren't hard at all except for one of them where we did this really hard like core & arm workout. I have THE weakest arms in the history of all time ever and so you can imagine how that went over. My arms have never felt like that before. But then near the end of that station my thigh like seized up and it hurt so bad, like a charlie horse in my inner thigh oh my gosh it was awful and I thought it was just tired like my arms but like a little while after that station my arms felt fine and my thigh still hurt like crazy.. I think it may be something worse than just sore :/ It still hurts way bad right now. At tryouts we also  ran a 400 and my time was 1:13 (haha real good I know) we did a bunch of other stuff (and I really suck at it all, like they make us do every event except for stupid distance and I really hate it) I was going to talk to the trainer afterwards about my leg but he wasn't there. When we got home Ethan & I ran like 1.5 mi just cause tryouts really do nothing for you except make you really tired. We went really slow & it was fun. I guess one good thing about today was that the weather was acutally amazing! It's usually snowing or something at tryouts.

First day of actual track! All the distance kids just went and did a distance run. It was really fun and it was just awesome running with all the xc people again! It was like the happiest feeling. We all kind of split off and I went up the canyon at an easy pace with a couple others. It was raining, too! I love running in the rain. Afterwards it was raining way hard and so we went inside and stretched. I was still horribly sore from tryouts so it felt good. Just a nice, easy kind of shake-out day.

There was no school today & no formal practice, but Ethan & I went to the track where we met a bunch of other people (mainly sprinters) It was SO WARM! They decided to do "breakdowns" (some sprinter workout, idk) where we did a 400, 300, 200, and 100. I was feeling a lot less sore & just overall really great! We only did one set, but I kinda wanted to do another cause it was pretty easy. Then we ran to Mack where we played in the river for a bit. Ethan still wanted to go further so we ran up the canyon a bit. The whole run off the track totalled to 3 miles. It was a really fun, easy day
